Romania's national currency, the leu, dipped to 3.53 against the single European currency in today's opening session, in line with other currencies in the region which lost ground following the U.S. dollar appreciation.

The leu stood at 3.52 lei per euro this morning, close to the level in the previous session and then dropped to 3.532. Banks bought the euro with 3.5290 lei and sold it for 3.5390 lei at 10:50 a.m.
On international markets, the U.S. dollar increased constantly from 1.472 to below 1.47 versus the euro. At 10:50 a.m. Romania's hour, the euro was traded for 1.4697 U.S. dollars.
Interbank interests for overnight deposits stood at 12.75 – 13.25 percent per year, exceeding the key interest rate of 10.25 percent per year, on lack of liquidity on the market.
