Romania's national currency, the leu, advanced to 3.66 against the single European currency in today's opening session, on a calm market, without significant moves, dealers said.

The leu increased from 3.6650 to 3.66 versus the euro this morning. Banks bought the euro with 3.6590 lei and sold it for 3.6620 lei at 10:50 a.m.
On international markets, the U.S. dollar dropped from 1.5459 to 1.5553 versus the euro. At 11 a.m. Romania's hour, the euro was traded for 1.5513 U.S. dollars.
Interbank interests for overnight deposits stood at 8.90 – 9.50 percent per year, below the monetary policy rate of 9.75 percent per year.
