Romania's national currency, the leu, stood close to 3.71 against the single European currency today, on a stable market, next to other foreign currencies in the region, dealers said.

The leu climbed from 3.7135 to 3.7010 lei per euro this morning and then started to lose ground. Banks bought the euro with 3.7095 lei and sold it for 3.7165 lei at 10:45 a.m.
The U.S. dollar slipped from 1.5639 to 1.5713 U.S. dollars per euro on international markets; at 10:45 a.m. Romania's hour, the euro stood at 1.5707 U.S. dollars.
Interbank interests for overnight deposits stood close to the monetary policy rate of 9.5 percent per year.
