Romania's national currency, the leu, remained around 3.53 against the single European currency in today's opening session, after interbank interests for overnight deposits decreased to 12-13 percent per year, underpinned by the central bank's intervention on August 12, dealers said.

Romania's Central Bank (BNR) placed 1.37 billion lei to ten banks on August 12.
The leu waved around 3.53 versus the euro this morning, after it climbed 1.6 percent in the previous session. Banks bought the euro with 3.5315 lei and sold it for 3.5385 lei at 11:25 a.m.
On international markets, the U.S. dollar oscillated between 1.4886 and 1.4979 versus the euro and at 11:25 a.m. Romania's hour, the euro was traded for 1.4915 U.S. dollars.
Interbank interests for overnight deposits went down to 12 – 13 percent per year, still exceeding the monetary policy rate of 10.25 percent per year, on low liquidity on the market.
