Romania's national currency, the leu, dropped from 3.6445 to 3.6590 against the single European currency in today's opening session, pending the central bank's decision over the monetary policy rate.

Banks bought the euro with 3.6475 lei and sold it for 3.6545 lei at 11:15 p.m.
On international markets, the U.S. dollar inched from 1.5685 to 1.5628 versus the euro and at 11:15 a.m. Romania's hour, the euro was traded for 1.5665 U.S. dollars.
Interbank interests for overnight deposits stood at 10.40 – 10.90 percent per year, exceeding the monetary policy rate of 9.75 percent per year, on lower liquidity on the market.
Most analysts expect the central bank to increase the monetary policy rate to at least 10 percent per year today.
