Romania's national currency, the leu, advanced to 3.5150 against Europe's single currency in today's opening session, in line with other currencies in the region, as interbank interests stood close to the monetary policy rate level.

The leu stood at 3.52 versus the euro this morning and then gained ground to 3.51. Banks bought the euro with 3.5155 lei and sold it for 3.519 lei at 10:50 a.m.
On international markets, the U.S. dollar increased from 1.479 to 1.476 versus the euro and at 10:50 a.m. Romania's hour, the euro was traded for 1.4755 U.S. dollars.
Interbank interests for overnight deposits stood at 10 – 10.5 percent per year, close to the monetary policy rate of 10.25 percent per year.
