Romania's leu climbed to 3.56 against Europe's single currency in today's opening session, on high demand for the national currency, high interbank interests and following regional trend, dealers said.

The leu stood at 3.5700-3.5750 versus the euro this morning and then increased to 3.5550. The national currency was traded for 3.5560 – 3.5640 lei per euro at 10:40 a.m.
On international markets, the U.S. dollar stood at 1.5792 - 1.5844 against the euro in the morning. At 10:40 a.m. Romania's hour, the euro stood at 1.5834 U.S. dollars.
Interbank interest rates for overnight deposits stood at 8.5 – 9 percent per year, below the monetary policy rate of 9.5 percent.
