Romania's national currency, the leu, climbed to 3.65 against Europe's single currency in today's opening session, on higher demand for lei, dealers said.

The leu stood at 3.66 versus the euro this morning. Banks bought the euro with 3.6550 lei and sold it for 3.6650 lei at 10:30 a.m.
The leu could climb below 3.6 lei per euro this month if the international context remains at least stable, if not favorable, chief dealer of Emporiki Bank Romania, Liviu Arnautu, told NewsIn.
The U.S. dollar slipped to 1.58 against the euro on international markets; at 10:30 a.m. Romania's hour, the euro stood at 1.5764 U.S. dollars.
Interbank interests for overnight deposits stood close to the monetary policy rate of 9.5 percent per year.
