Romania's national currency, the leu, fluctuated around 3.53 and 3.55 against the single European currency in today's opening session, in line with other currencies in the region.

The leu was traded for 3.5242 lei per euro this morning and then dropped to 3.5460. Banks bought the euro with 3.5410 lei and sold it for 3.5455 lei at 11:05 a.m.
The Polish zloty slipped to 3.3629 against the euro and then climbed to 3.345. The Hungarian forint dipped to 239.45 versus the European currency and then recovered to 238.5.
On international markets, the U.S. dollar dropped constantly from 1.4689 to 1.4758 versus the euro and at 11:05 a.m. Romania's hour, the euro was traded for 1.4749 U.S. dollars.
Interbank interests for overnight deposits stood at 13.4 – 13.9 percent per year, exceeding the monetary policy rate of 10.25 percent per year, on lack of liquidity on the market.
