Romania’s national currency, the leu, fell from 3.52 versus the single European currency to 3.58 on roaring market, in line with evolution of currencies in the region, dealers said.

The leu dropped significantly in the morning, from 3.52 to 3.57 versus the euro and gained ground to 3.56 around 10:40 a.m. Banks bought the euro with 3.5610 lei and sold it for 3.5660 lei at 10:55 a.m.
On international markets, the U.S. dollar waved around 1.497 against the euro, the highest level in the past five months, and then started to lose ground. At 10:55 a.m. Romania's hour, the euro was traded for 1.5036 U.S. dollars.
Interbank interests for overnight deposits stood at 12 percent per year, exceeding the key interest rate of 10.25 percent per year.
