Romania's national currency, the leu, rose to 3.6985 against the single European currency in today's opening session, next to other foreign currencies in the region, dealers said.

Banks bought the euro for 3.6990 lei and sold it for 3.7090 lei at 10:40 a.m.
The U.S. dollar increased from 1.5693 to 1.5611 U.S. dollars per euro on international markets; at 10:40 a.m. Romania's hour, the euro stood at 1.5614 U.S. dollars.
Interbank interests for overnight deposits stood close to the monetary policy rate of 9.5 percent per year.
