Indexes on the Bucharest Stock Exchange (BSE) advanced 1 percent in today's opening session, on modest liquidity.
Liquidity stood at 1.72 million lei (467,733 euros) today, versus 782,400 lei in the previous session.
Stocks in the U.S. dropped on closing in the previous session. So the Dow Jones (DJIA) composite index dipped 1.83 percent to 11,842, the S&P 500 index lost 1.85 percent to 1,317 and the Nasdaq index fell 2.27 percent to 2,406.
In Romania, the BET index measuring the ten best companies on BSE, increased 1.03 percent to 6,962.14 and the BET-C composite index tracking all listed shares minus investment funds gained 0.94 percent to 4,959.65.
The BET-FI index of the five financial companies known as SIFs advanced 0.71 percent to 51,693.77 and the ROTX index for trading blue-chips in Vienna climbed 1.15 percent to 15,968.12.
Fifth lender by assets Banca Transilvania (TLV) was the most liquid stock today, with deals of 258,862 lei and upped 0.97 percent to 0.4150 lei. Second lender by assets BRD SocGen (BRD) climbed 2 percent to 20.40 lei, on deals of 144,976 lei.
SIF Muntenia (SIF4) idled at 1.64 lei, on deals of 224,882 lei, SIF Banat-Crisana (SIF1) advanced 0.90 percent to 2.25 lei and SIF Oltenia (SIF5) rose 0.71 percent to 2.82 lei.
Shares of oil company Rompetrol Well Services (PTR) cheapened 0.68 percent to 1.45 lei, on deals of 181,277 lei.
