Romania's leu idles at 3.6650 versus the euro in today's opening session

Romania's national currency, the leu, remained around 3.6650 against the single European currency in today's opening session, on foreign banks' interventions, unlike other currencies in the region, dealers said.

The leu waved around 3.6655 and 3.6690 versus the euro this morning. Banks bought the euro with 3.6670 lei and sold it for 3.67 lei at 11:05 a.m.

On international markets, the U.S. dollar dropped from 1.5493 to 1.5564 versus the euro. At 11:05 a.m. Romania's hour, the euro was traded for 1.5562 U.S. dollars.

Interbank interests for overnight deposits stood around 8 – 9 percent per year, below the monetary policy rate of 9.75 percent per year.
