Romania's national currency, the leu, climbed to 3.6657 against the single European currency in today's opening session, following regional trend, on a calm market as stock exchanges in London and U.S. are closed.
The leu climbed from 3.6750 to 3.6657 versus the euro this morning. Banks bought the euro with 3.6655 and sold it for 3.6705 lei at 11:35 a.m.
On international markets, the U.S. dollar inched from 1.5792 to 1.5750 versus the euro. At 11:35 a.m. Romania's hour, the euro was traded for 1.5759 U.S. dollars.
Interbank interests for overnight deposits stood at 10 – 10.5 percent per year, exceeding the monetary policy rate of 9.75 percent per year.
