Romania's national currency, the leu, dropped from 3.6425 to 3.6540 against the single European currency in today's opening session and then advanced to 3.6460, on high interbank interests.
Banks bought the euro with 3.6470 lei and sold it for 3.6515 lei at 11 a.m.
On international markets, the U.S. dollar slipped from 1.5775 to 1.5817 versus the euro, on higher prices for petrol. At 11:05 a.m. Romania's hour, the euro was traded for 1.5805 U.S. dollars.
Interbank interests for overnight deposits stood at 10.40 – 10.90 percent per year, exceeding the monetary policy rate of 10 percent per year, on lower liquidity on the market.
