"Fac acest lucru cu plăcere. Eu sunt un tip care iubesc sportul și fac sport. Încurajez orice persoană care face sport, cu atât mai mult când obține asemenea rezultate și ne duce numele în toate țările lumii. Sigur, sunt unii care vor spune că propuseseră să o facem acum câteva luni de zile cetățean de onoare și eu atunci am spus că trebuie să mai crească. Văd că a stimulat-o ceea ce am spus și a urcat în ierarhie repede de tot", a spus Radu Mazăre.
La rândul său, fratele sportivei, Nicolae Halep, a precizat că reacția Simonei la aflarea veștii că devine cetățean de onoare al Constanței a fost una de bucurie, titulatura respectivă reprezentând pentru ea o mare onoare și o plăcere.
Pe 13 iunie, Simona Halep a fost premiată și de conducerea Universității "Ovidius" din Constanța pentru performanțele sportive obținute la turneul de tenis de la Roland Garros.
La timpul respectiv, rectorul universității, Ion Bordeianu, i-a făcut sportivei propunerea de a deveni pe viitor cadru didactic la Facultatea de Educație Fizică și Sport.
Simona Halep este numărul trei în ierarhia mondială a tenisului feminin, reușind această performanță după ce s-a calificat în finala de la Roland Garros, pierdută în fața rusoaicei Maria Șarapova.
